Step-by-Step Flower Face Paint (flower design)

Below you’ll see step by step how to create a simple flower face paint on the cheek. This design is quick, easy, and perfect for beginners.

Step 1: Flower center

Load your finger sponge with orange. Hold the sponge at an angle and add a little brown to one side. This gives the center of the flower two colors and creates more depth.

Step 2: Apply the centers

Apply a few (I used 3 in this example) dots around the eye — these will become the centers of the flowers.

Step 3: Apply the petals

Using a round brush with white face paint, add the petals. Start at the outer edge of the petal and slowly lift your brush so the petal finishes in a pointed tip.

Step 4: Create the flowers

Add as many petals around the centers as you like. I made the petals shorter on the brown side of the centers to create a more 3D effect.

Step 5: Small flowers

Using a thin round brush with white face paint, create a circle of small petals.

Common mistakes when painting flowers

Watch out for these beginner mistakes:

  • Too much face paint on your brush → patchy result

  • No contrast → flowers don’t stand out

  • Petals that are too large → lose their shape

  • Making everything the same size → less playful

Variation and light brush strokes make all the difference.

Variations on flower face painting

Vary your flower colors. With yellow and brown, you can create sunflower designs.
