No experience needed. With just a few basic colors and simple techniques, you can create a beautiful result.
What You Need for Elsa Face Painting
You only need a few basic supplies to create this simple Elsa look.

1. Sponsje
Use a sponge to apply a soft base. This creates a smooth “ice effect” without harsh lines.
💡 Tip: Use dabbing motions, not swiping.
2. Brushes (2 sizes)
Use two brushes:
A thin brush for details like snowflakes
A slightly thicker brush for the crown and shapes
3. Light blue face paint
Use this for the base and soft shading. It creates that signature ice princess look.
4. Dark blue face paint
Adds depth and contrast, making your design stand out more.
5. White face paint
Essential for highlights, snowflakes, and fine details. This makes the design look fresh and crisp.
Step-by-step Elsa face paint (ice princess look)
Follow these steps to create a simple Elsa design with a crown and snowflakes.
Step 1: Apply the base
Apply light blue face paint using a sponge. Apply this from the cheekbones upward and create a rough diamond shape on the forehead. This diamond shape forms the base of the snowflake.

Step 2 - 5 Snowflake face paint
Using white face paint and a number 3 round brush, we will now create the snowflake. You can make it as detailed as you like. If steps 2 and 3 are already challenging enough, feel free to skip steps 4 and 5. Start by creating a star with three lines (step 2). At the end of each line, add two small lines to form the classic snowflake shape (step 3). If you have space, you can add more lines to make the snowflake more detailed (step 4). Finally, use dark blue to add some lowlights and give your snowflake more depth (step 5).

Step 6
Apply white face paint to create swirls at the temples and above the eyebrow.

Step 7
Finish the swirls with a few teardrops using white face paint and add some dots.

Step 8
Paint a small snowflake on the cheekbone using white face paint.

Step 9 (optional)
Apply dark blue face paint as lowlights along the linework to add more depth.

Stap 10
Do the same on the other side of the face and your face paint is finished.

Common mistakes when painting Elsa
Watch out for these beginner mistakes:
Lines that are too thick
Using too many colors
Lack of contrast
Overcomplicating the design
Keep it light, simple, and elegant — that’s what makes an ice princess look beautiful.
