What You Need for Cat Face Painting
You only need a few basic products:
1. White face paint
For the muzzle and highlights.

For details.
3. Multiple face paint colors
For the colorful cat design. I choose orange and pink.
4. Sponge
For soft color blending on the skin.
5. Face paint brush
For lines
Step-by-step Cat Face Paint
Below you’ll see step by step how to create a simple cat face paint design. This look is quick, easy, and perfect for beginners.
Step 1: White muzzle
Use a sponge to apply white face paint around the mouth and nose. Also create a half triangle shape above the eyes. This will become the inside of the ears.
💡 Tip: Use a dabbing motion for even coverage.

Step 2: Fur color
Load a sponge with 2 face paint colors. Here, I’m using orange on one side (this will become the inside color) and dark pink on the other side (this will become the outside color).
💡 Tip: Do two colors feel too difficult? You can also use just one color.

Step 3: Apply the fur color
Apply the fur color with a dabbing motion. Cover the cheeks, eyelids, and a small area above the eyebrows.
💡 Tip: Avoid painting too close around the eyes on very young children.

Do you notice that clean lines are difficult? Especially when painting a cat, many beginners struggle with this. With a few simple brush techniques, it becomes much easier.
Step 4: Cleaning up
Did you accidentally go outside the lines in some places? Use a wipe with a little water to clean everything up neatly.

Step 5: Nose
Use a brush with black face paint to create a nose.
💡 Tip: Is a heart shape too difficult or not your style? An oval works well too.

Step 6: Muzzle
Using black face paint, draw a line from the nose to the lips. Curve the line toward the smile crease. Then continue the line toward the inner corner of the eye, over the brow bone, and toward the outer corner of the eye.
💡 Tip: Work in small steps for the most symmetrical result.

Step 7: Upper lip
Use black face paint to make the upper lip symmetrical. Also add 3 rows of dots on each side for the whiskers.

Step 8: Ears
Outline the ears with black face paint. Also add some linework inside the ears.

Step 9: Hair tuft
Create a small tuft of hair using black face paint.

Step 10: Fur texture
Using black face paint on a brush, create a fur effect on the cheeks with a zigzag motion.
💡 Tip: Use the tip of your brush for a more wispy fur effect.

Step 11: Lower lip
Apply face paint or lipstick to the lower lip. I chose the same pink color as the cheeks.

Step 12: Whiskers
Create whiskers using white face paint.
💡 Tip: Use the tip of your brush to make the whiskers as thin as possible.

Common mistakes when painting a cat
Watch out for these beginner mistakes:
Whiskers too thick → loses the elegant effect
Too much face paint → patchy result
No contrast → details disappear
Colors blended too much → muddy effect
Thin lines and clean color transitions make the difference.
